NI Horticulture PO — Building a stronger future for Northern Ireland's growers
NI Horticulture PO was established in 2025 as a recognised Producer Organisation, and in a short time has already begun to make a meaningful impact on Northern Ireland’s horticulture sector.
The organisation brings together commercial growers of mushrooms, field vegetables, soft fruit, salad crops, and apples under a unified structure — giving members a stronger, more coordinated position in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
Why a Producer Organisation matters
A recognised PO gives growers access to co-funded investment through the UK’s Fruit and Vegetable Aid Scheme (FVAS), administered by DAERA. This support enables growers to invest in modernisation, efficiency improvements, and environmental performance — benefits that would be difficult or impossible to achieve individually.
Just as importantly, membership provides practical, day-to-day support: coordinated production planning, shared technical expertise, quality and grading consistency, and improved visibility with retailers and supply chain partners.
A diverse and resilient membership
One of the distinguishing features of NI Horticulture PO is the breadth of its membership. Rather than representing a single crop, the organisation supports growers across multiple sectors. This creates a more resilient, diversified base that can better absorb the market pressures and seasonal variations that any individual crop might face.
From indoor mushroom producers to outdoor field vegetable growers, from strawberry farmers to apple orchards, NIHPO’s members collectively represent the full range of what Northern Ireland’s land and climate can produce.
Looking ahead
The horticulture sector faces real challenges — cost pressures, labour availability, regulatory change, and the ongoing demands of evolving retailer standards. NI Horticulture PO exists to help its members face those challenges collectively, with access to support, investment, and a unified voice.
For growers looking to strengthen their business and be part of a growing movement in Northern Irish horticulture, membership enquiries are welcome. Get in touch via the Contact page or visit the Membership section to find out more.
